Who Would You Have Saved? Chinese Man Slammed Online For Saving Mother Over His Wife (SEE)

A Chinese man has been condemned online after choosing to save his mother from deadly floodwaters instead of his wife.
Gao Fengshou’s wife and mother of his children has now left him after the split second decision to put his parent first, The Times reported.
The decorator acted as flooding spread towards his village of Xingtai in the north China province of Hebei on July 20, telling his family to clamber on to the roof.
He then left to see his mother and, when he returned, his wife and family had vanished along with a bundle of cash.
According to The Times, Mr Gao said afterwards there was not time to make a choice between the two women.
He said: “I can’t imagine what went through her mind when I went straight for my mother.
“Abandoning my mother would be reprehensible, but leaving my wife behind would be unacceptable as well. I know she must be so disappointed in me.”
But hordes of people on Chinese social media have slammed his actions, the paper reported.
One wrote: “It’s no wonder she left him. Who would want a husband who you can’t rely on in dangerous circumstances?”
Flooding across Hebei and neighbouring Henan province in recent weeks has killed 164 people and displaced more than half a million others

Finally, OAU Gets New Vice-Chancellor

The Senate at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has finally chosen an acting Vice Chancellor for the institution.
Professor Anthony Elujoba of the Faculty of Pharmacy has emerged the acting Vice-Chancellor following a meeting between members of the university senate on Thursday, July 21, 2016.
This came barely 24 hours after the Federal Government ordered the Senate of the school to use its internal mechanism in selecting a new Vice Chancellor.
It will be recalled that the Academic Staff Union of the institution had earlier disagreed with the Senior Staff Association of Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) over the appointment of Prof. Ayobami Salami, who is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) as the 11th VC of the university.
In a letter addressed to the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, the President earlier directed the Senate not to consider any of the candidates who earlier contested for the position.
The letter further says the Senate of the university should take immediate steps to implement the directive of the President and report back to the Federal Ministry of Education.

Lai Mohammed: Buhari Has Fulfilled Promises On Insecurity, Economy, Corruption .

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration was on the way to fulfilling its campaign promises to address insecurity, fix the economy and fight corruption.
The minister said the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is on the right track and there is no alternative to what it is doing.
Lai stated this at a meeting with the members of staff of the Nigerian Embassy in Madrid, Spain.
The meeting was on the sideline of the minister’s two-day official visit to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).
“I believe that we are on the right track, there will be some pains, but there is no alternative to what we are doing,’’ he said.
He said that the administration had fulfilled its campaign promises to address insecurity, fix the economy and fight corruption.
In the area of security, the minister said that when Buhari came on board, 14 of the 20 Local Government Areas of Borno, four in Adamawa and three in Yobe were under the sovereign authority of Boko Haram.
He said that with proactive measures and soft diplomacy with neighbouring African countries, the U.S., France and the G-8 the country had “decisively deal with Book Haram.’’
“Today, all the major highways leading to Maiduguri are opened and about two months ago, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) played a league match in Maiduguri stadium,’’ he said.
On the renewed agitations in the Niger-Delta region and parts of the South-East, the minister reassured that the government would not marginalise any part of the country, and assured that economic development would go round to everyone.
According to the minister, the present administration is implementing fiscal discipline and other measures to address the messed up economy it inherited from its predecessors.
He said with the temporarily painful measures, the government would turn the adversity to gains and ensure that never again would the nation run a corrupt, clueless and an oil-dependent economy.
The minister said that the administration had been unfairly accused of placing too much emphasis on the fight against corruption at the expense of addressing fundamental economic issues.
He stressed that no amount of economic reforms put in place could work unless the “monster of corruption is successfully dealt with.’’
Mohammed clarified that the administration’s fight against corruption was not selective, and that the government was not probing the 2015 elections campaign funds of the People’s Democratic Party.
He assured that that the government would continue to remain focused in its efforts to rebuilding the country.

The Minister Consular of the embassy, Mr Sola Akinlude, who conducted the minister round the embassy, said that the official population of Nigerians resident in Spain was about 100,000. (NAN)

5 Physically Challenged People Who Did And Doing Great In Their Careers

Credit: simc-wire.com

What is your reason to give up? History has experienced most distinguished success by both genders in due course of time. These successes are even more palatable to the ears if they are traced and credited to those who people have already given up on.

It takes a lot of commitment for a full bodied man to achieve a feat like success; meanwhile we have witnessed so many physically challenged people who stood out to level the fame.

Now, we are about to go through the profiles of people (home/abroad) with disabilities who rose, and rising above even the fully functional people to claim their desired fame.

1. Cobhams Asuquo: A Nigerian producer per excellence, I do not know how producing music works, but I am 70% confident the presence of sight would be very much needed in the job.

Then if my assertions are true, how on earth is it possible for a man who was born blind to outsmart so many people in same league even though they are not challenged physically as him? Cobhams despite being blind have won so many awards in the Nigerian entertainment industry which so many people with their 2 broad eyes opened would find it difficult to beat, he also sings and write songs, his recent award outside music promotion includes wining the best recording in the 2014 headies award ceremony in Nigeria.

2. Hellen Keller: In the history of education, this woman was the first ever to merit Bachelors degree in Arts, Even though she was blind, she stood by herself and despite her disabilities, she went on to go for what she wants and earned her to be one of the most celebrated authors in the history of USA.

Think about how easy it would be for a blind person to succeed in becoming a professor of Arts, while thinking about it, I am so glad to tell you she was also a political activist which she had the leading hands in establishing the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

How great this is? And lest I forget, did I tell you she was not just blind. She was also deaf.

3.- Don Geo: This name might not stand to be heard enough in a country of so many singers, Don Geo is a Nigerian rapper who got his right hand amputated as a result of an ugly incidence that happened to him when he was young. He never for once lost hope in chasing his dream of becoming a rapper despite knowing he would forever hold microphone with one hand.

Even though he’s among the most talented upcoming rappers in the country. We have known and seen so many good and talented people in the industry as well that gave up music as a result of one or more circumstances which is not in any way comparable to getting amputated in their parts of the body.

4.Stevie Wonder: So many people can get acquainted with this name even though they know little or nothing about the man behind the name.

I should simply call him American version of Cobhams, Blind man with great insights. His name which has already turned to a lingo in and outside his country gives him continuous recognition throughout the world.

He is a winner of so many awards and still ruling the music world of his own.

5.Yinka Ayefele: A Journalist turned musician. Yinka Ayefele, OON is a Nigerian gospel singer who used his bitter experience to transform his lifestyle into a very sweet experience.

He started as a journalist and a broadcaster on national radio station before he got an auto crash which damaged his spinal cord and confined him to a wheel chair for over 18 years.

Despite all odds, he stood firm and followed his friend’s advice to start a musical career and today he is one of (if not) the most successful gospel artistes in the country.

The crippled man is a recipient of over 200 awards which includes ‘Member Of The Order Of Niger’ awarded by the former president Jonathan of Nigeria.

So, back to my first statement above. What is your excuse for giving up? Are you going through some odd moment of life whereby you are already thinking of giving up? Stand up to your feet, you are not physically challenged, and even if you are, the profiles of these people should inspire you to say no to defeat in your life.

No matter how tough the road seems, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
